AMY STEBBINS

Amy Stebbins is a writer and director working across opera, theater, and new media. Her work includes mainstage productions, site-specific installations, virtual reality pieces, and film–orchestra collaborations. Her operas have been commissioned from opera houses such as the Bavarian State Opera, the Frankfurt Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and others.
Amy is the Founding Director and Chair of New Opera Dialogues. Since 2015, she has organized multiple transatlantic exchanges with partners including the Fulbright Foundation, the German Chancellery, and the U.S. State Department.
Amy holds a Ph.D. from the University of Chicago and a B.A. from Harvard University. Her work has been supported by fellowships from MacDowell, the Academy for Theater & Digitality, the Lincoln Center Directors Lab, and the Fulbright Foundation. In 2025, she joined the UKRI-funded “Immersive Opera” project at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
