Hauke Berheide is an award-winning German composer specializing in opera and Lied. He has received commissions from major institutions including the Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Oper Frankfurt, Staatstheater Augsburg, Ensemble Modern, Düsseldorfer Symphoniker, and Semperoper Dresden, and has collaborated with conductors and musicians such as Oksana Lyniv, André de Ridder, Axel Kober, and the Auryn Quartet. In partnership with director and librettist Amy Stebbins, he has created five intermedial stage works spanning opera, silent film, and virtual reality.
Berheide’s work has been recognized with the Rome Prize (Villa Massimo), the Munich Opera Festival Prize, the Music Theatre NOW Prize, the North Rhine-Westphalia Prize for Young Artists, and a 2022 MacDowell Fellowship. In addition to opera, he composes orchestral, chamber, and vocal music, including the cello concerto Icarofor Maximilian Hornung. A committed advocate for new opera, he co-founded New Opera Dialogues and teaches composition at the Hanover University of Music, Drama, and Media.
