Lily Kass is an interdisciplinary scholar and educator whose work focuses on the diverse ways in which musical and theatrical works are reimagined, adapted, and translated to meet the needs of new audiences. She earned an A.B. in Literature from Harvard University in 2010, and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Pennsylvania in 2017. As Scholar in Residence at Opera Philadelphia, Lily gives pre-performance lectures, writes program notes and listening guides, interviews artists, curates panels, manages the company's nascent archives, and otherwise applies her research to the needs of the company. During the 2025-26 academic year, Lily is serving as Visiting Assistant Professor of Music at Swarthmore College, and she also continues to teach courses related to opera history and current performance practice for the Peabody Institute of Music. In addition, Lily remains active as a singer and is proud to perform as a Scholar Artist with the Marian Anderson Museum and Historical Society.
