"I’m excited to learn about opera practices in other countries; it enriches my work as a librettist and educator. The biggest challenges facing artists in the US are funding losses for the arts & new works. How do we survive and help young artists enter a field with fewer resources and opportunities? Audiences are younger post-Covid. Story is more important to them than for older audiences, making the librettist more important and prominent. These changes pose unique challenges to companies creating new opera in the US."
